8 Drill Bit & Tool Storage Ideas to 3D Print

Choose drill bit storage by full tool length, shank size and access. These 8 picks separate drill and driver-bit storage from related tools: lay long bits flat, stand tools upright or mount them on a wooden backboard, and lift out grouped bits in an insert. Check under-lid clearance on hooded designs.

Drill and driver-bit storage

Choose by placement and access: drawer channels, bench sockets, a dust hood, grouped lift-out inserts or a wooden-backboard rack. Open models do not lock tools; the loose-fit hood has no transport latch.

Before you print

  • Measure the actual shank diameter, overall tool length and exposed length needed for gripping. Cutting diameter and shank diameter can differ, so do not size storage holes from the drill’s labeled cutting size alone.
  • Studio dimensions use millimeters. Allow clearance around the actual tool and test a small sample first. Overall dimensions do not describe hole fit, usable compartments or clearance under a lid.
  • For drawer storage, check both holder height and the height of inserted tools. For moving tools, choose suitable closure and retention; an open holder will not keep loose bits contained.
